Let’s, for the beginning, check some statistics:
There are almost 50 million immigrants in the world, people who looked for security in another country or they forced to leave from their own country. From this percentage 75-80% is women and children.
The UN Refugee Agency takes care for 21, 8 million refugees. Almost half of them are women and girls.
Most of the people are leaving from their houses because of wars and the percentage of the war victims that are unable to fight shooted an arrow over the last decades from 5% up to more than 90% of the victims. 80% of the victims from arms of small caliber are women and children and their number it’s over the military losses.
Family violence is the most widespread form of ill – treatment against women, since 25-50% of women had this experience from their companion. Only 44 countries around the world have specific measures on this matter. Women are victims of widespread sexual ill-treatment, especially in periods of war.
One out of five women around the world is victim of rape, most of them by a known sacrifice. 40-60% of sexual attacks are committed against girls no more than 16 years old.
More than 300.000 young people, most of them girl refugees, are serving as under age shoulders all over the world. Often girls are forced in various forms of sexual slavery.
More than 16, 4 million women today are facing the HIV/AIDS virus and the last years the range of women has come up to 47% of the offended population. Especially in Africa, teenage girls have more possibilities to be offended than boys.
The majority of the people that are victims of white slavery are women, especially those who are predestined for the global industries of prostitution.
Due to calculations 1,3 billion people all over the world, 70% from which are women, are leaving under conditions of absolute poorness with less than 1$ per day.
From the elements given above, we can easily come to the conclusion that even if we close the eyes and pretend that nothing is going on, in fact there exist a huge gap, and there are discriminations not only between women and men but also between women of different countries or even different ages. There are differences on aspects of everyday life such as job, salaries, forms of social providence, for example childcare, sexual orientation, freedom to choose. This phenomenon cuts human society both perpendicular and horizontal and affects mostly young women and girls, who are facing all these discriminations intense.
The solution to the above descriptive, existing situation, as ECOSY – Young European Socialists suggests, is the creation of an open society, in which everybody, every citizen can fully participate, regardless of gender, age, income, ethnic or social origin, sexual orientation, health condition and disability, religious or political orientation and citizenship.
It is a society, where human rights are guaranteed, where all citizens have the right to decent work, receive social benefits and follow education. Exclusion, discrimination and gender inequality have no place in the human society of our future and especially between the member states of EU!
EU should be a place of freedom and human rights without any kind of discrimination. Furthermore, EU should be a live pattern for all the other regions and countries all over the world as well as helper in the try for effacing of all this negative phenomena.
